"Caminos de Esperanza"
Help Mayan children with special needs
Jardin de America is not just a Spanish school, it is involved in a non-profit organization, Caminos de Esperanza, that helps the poor and disadvantaged.
In studying Spanish with us you participate in our social project as a volunteer. You can help change the life of many Mayans the region.
These people have different problems: Physical disabilities, learning problems, malnourishment, sicknesses, etc.; all made worse by extreme poverty.
- We are helping build a six class room school for students with special needs.
- Teachers from around the world help in the school while they are learning Spanish
- We find work for unemployed youth who are of risk of falling into a life of drug addiction and violence.
- We work with foreign doctors and nurses (some of whom are learning Spanish with us) at free clinics.
- We do what we can to get donations to maintain and grow "Caminos de Esperanza".
Some of our afternoon activities at the school helps the foundation. Below you can see photos of students working in the project:
There are no required additional costs associated with your volunteer work, however we can always use:
- Wheel chairs
- Crutches and walkers
- Thermometers, scales etc.
- Special education learning materials
- Etcetera...
In general the volunteer work is done in the afternoon. You decide what works for you.
